HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Band was formed in 1972 and is based in St Andrews in the North East of Fife. It first competed in 1974 and since those early days has competed at all levels and won many contests and major championships. We are currently a very young Band and we are competing in Grade IVB.
The Band wears the very Striking Red Erskine Tartan which is illustrated throughout the web pages. This was the regimental tartan (pipers’ kilts and plaids) of the first Pipe Major who was a member of the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
This choice of tartan was especially relevant since the Clan Erskine family home is just outside St Andrews. The tie and kilt pin display the St Andrew/Saltire motif which reflects the Band’s strong sense of belonging and contribution to the St Andrews community in particular and to Scottish heritage and culture in general. The Glengarry badge also has St Andrew and the Saltire in the middle. This is the badge of The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, an infantry regiment of the British Army which later amalgamated with the Seaforth Highlanders to form what is now known as the The Queen’s Own Highlanders.

The Band was delighted when permission was granted to use the badge because it was so appropriate for its image.
